Full Scorecard

On a mild Wednesday morning down at Cryfield, UWMCC 1st XI warmed up to play a strong Loughborough 2nd XI. After a kick about and a couple of chucks, it was time for the toss. Mihir started his season off well with a win here, and put the opposition in to bat on a slow and low track.

Kieron and Pru opened up the attack with some well directed and disciplined bowling, keeping the run rate down and even managing to take a couple of wickets. After some sharp fielding from Joe Randall and a scalp for each of the two openers, UWMCC seemed dominant in the first 15 overs, having league favourites Loughborough down for 23-3.

From this point onwards, despite not managing to take many wickets, continuous tight bowling from Joe Randall and Ryan Chase managed to keep them scoring at a very low rate. However, as we approached the last 10 overs of the innings, after a few sloppy mistakes and dropped catches in the field, Loughborough managed to take advantage of a lack of concentration from the UWMCC side, and they kicked on to a score of 171-9 with, unfortunately, far too many extras.

Then came the UWMCC innings, starting with the pairing of Mihir and Alex. An almost symmetrical situation to that of Loughborough appeared to unravel at the beginning of the innings with the score quickly drifting to 15-3, with the fall of 3 freshers. However after this, the positivity was re-enforced with a great display of mature batting from both Louie and Mihir as they managed to take the score to 87 before Mihir was lost for 22, quickly followed by Louie for 48.

After this, contributions from Oli and Rhino managed to take the score to 133 before we lost all of our wickets, meaning it was a loss by 38 runs for UOWMCC.
